Gustav Nyquist is proving to be Olympic-worthy as of late.

The Swede, who was named Johan Franzen's replacement on Sweden's Olyimpic team, continued his hot streak on Thursday night for the Red Wings.

Nyquist's unassisted goal at 13:22 broke a 1-1 tie, and proved to be the game winner as the Wings held off the Panthers 3-1.

The goal, which was his 14th of the season, came after Nyquist stole a loose puck in his own zone, raced past the Florida blue line, and snapped a wrister past Tim Thomas.

"I just tried to catch the goalie a little bit off guard, shoot it quick," Nyquist said.

The Wings' offense came to life in the second period after Scottie Upshall scored at 19:34 of the first. Daniel Alfredsson tallied his 13th goal of the year on a power play at 6:30 of the second to tie the game.

Brian Lashoff added an empty-netter with 19:40 left to put the game out of reach.

Jimmy Howard picked up the win with 23 saves to put his record at 12-12-9.
