The Red Wings have placed forward Mikael Samuelsson on waivers in order to clear up roster space.
The move was reported by MLive's Ansar Khan.
Samuelsson was signed by the Red Wings in 2012 as a free agent for a second stint after playing with the team from 2005 until 2009. He has played in only 30 games since his return to Detroit, registering only four points.
The 37-year old Swede is set to become an unrestricted free agent after this season. He has until noon on Sunday to clear waivers, or he will report to Grand Rapids.
The move will only give the Wings $100,000 in cap relief if Samuelsson clears. If claimed, all of his $900,000 will come off the books.
