The Detroit Red Wings will have some solid representation at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

Team USA announced their hockey roster for the Olympics, and Jimmy Howard made it on as one of three goaltenders.

Howard joins Jonathan Quick of Los Angeles and Ryan Miller of Buffalo as netminders for Team USA.

"This is really surreal," Howard said Wednesday. "The last 24 hours — participating here in the Winter Classic, being named to Team USA — it's been a great 24 hours. Very memorable for my family and myself as well."

"Based upon Jimmy's last two years, to me he's an Olympian,"Red Wings GM Ken Holland said. "He's a great team guy. Whether he's No. 1 or the No. 3, he's going to be there supporting his country and his teammates. He's played in four or five Game 7s. Game 7 in Phoenix. Game 7 with San Jose. Game 7 in Anaheim. Game 7 in Chicago. He's played in big games and he's been a big part of us playing our way into to the playoffs and playing 14 playoff games [last spring]."

Team Canada will release their roster at a later date. Red Wings coach Mike Babcock will be behind the bench for Canada in Sochi.

FORMER CAPTAINS INDUCTED: Two former Red Wings can add another honor to their mantles.

Steve Yzerman and Nick Lidstrom, who have won Stanley Cups with the Wings as well as Olympic gold medals, will be inducted into the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame in May.

Yzerman helped Canada win gold at the 2002 Salt Lake City Games, while Lidstrom scored the gold medal-winning goal for Sweden at the 2006 Torino Games.

The ceremony will take place at the 2013 World Championships in Belarus.

JOFFERY LUPUL FINED: Toronto Maple Leafs forward Joffery Lupul will be a little lighter in the wallet after an incident during the Winter Classic.

Lupul was fined $10,000 by the NHL Department of Player Safety for cross checking Patrick Eaves in the first period of Wednesday's game.

Eaves did not return to the game due to a dislocated jaw, but is expected to return to action Saturday when the Wings play in Dallas.

DEFENSEMAN RECALLED: Fans will see a new face on the ice for the Wings on Saturday.

The club has recalled defenseman Alexey Marchenko from Grand Rapids to make his NHL debut.

The Russian was a seventh-round pick of the Red Wings in the 2011 NHL Draft. He has 16 points (2 goals, 14 assists) to go with a plus-15 rating in his first season in North America.

Marchenko will be the fifth Red Wing to make his NHL debut this season, joining Luke Glendening, Xavier Ouellet, Adam Almquist, and Tomas Jurco.

Marchenko played with Pavel Datsyuk for CSKA Moscow during the NHL lockout.
