Red Wings Update: The Wings came back from their Christmas break with a 4-3 win over the Florida Panthers on Saturday, as four different players scored a goal. The headliner was Henrik Zetterberg scoring in his return to action from a back injury. Darren Helm and Jimmy Howard will also make their returns to action tonight, but Johan Franzen (concussion), Jonathan Ericsson (ribs), Jonas Gustavsson (groin), and Stephen Weiss (sports hernia) are all out.
Predators Update: The Predators are coming off of a 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday, as Mike Fisher's goal with 26.4 seconds left gave helped his team end a five-game skid. The Preds have been stuck in the basement for most of the year, due to goaltender Pekka Rinne missing time due to surgery for a hip infection. Filip Forsberg (upper body) is also out of action.
Players to Watch:
Shea Weber: Nine points in his last eight games, and always seems to score against the Wings.
Seth Jones: The rookie defenseman has been making his case for Calder Trophy.
David Legwand: Leads the Preds in scoring with 25 points.
Red Wings:
Henrik Zetterberg: Despite missing almost all of December, he's tied for the lead in scoring with 31 points with…
Pavel Datsyuk: 14 goals on the year, with one more he will pass last season's total.
Daniel Alfredsson: Six points in last five games.
Prediction: The rivalry between both teams has fizzled since the Wings moved to the East. The Preds still struggle offensively, and Mazanec has regressed in net. The Wings have excelled on the road, and will end 2013 on a strong note.
Make It; Red Wings 3, Predators 2.
