First off, I hope everyone had a good Christmas.

Now to recap some news from the Detroit Red Wings that happened over the last couple of days.

In terms of injuries, we can add Jonathan Ericsson to the list after he sustained multiple broken ribs in Monday's loss to the New York Islanders. Ericsson is expected to be out 3-5 weeks, which would likely put his return sometime in mid-to-late January.

Ericsson has already missed ten games due to a shoulder injury and the birth of his daughter.

Also, Stephen Weiss will be out until after the Olympic break after he had successful surgery to repair a torn abdominal muscle on Monday.

Jimmy Howard (knee) and Johan Franzen (concussion) are expected to be back Monday when the Wings travel to Nashville.

Darren Helm (flu), Justin Abdelkader (concussion), and Henrik Zetterberg (back) are all expected to return Saturday when the Wings face the Florida Panthers.

PROSPECTS SHINE AT WORLD JUNIORS: Two Red Wings prospects were key for Team Canada in their opening game at the 2014 World Junior Championships in Malmo, Sweden.

Anthony Mantha recorded a hat trick and Jake Paterson stopped 20 of 22 shots in Canada's 7-2 victory over Germany in the first preliminary game.

Mantha was the Wings' top pick in the 2013 NHL Draft. He has been dominating the QMJHL with 73 points (35 goals) for the Val d'Or Foreurs. He signed an entry-level contract with the Wings in October.

Paterson was a third-round pick of the Wings in the 2012 NHL Draft from the Saginaw Spirit of the OHL.
