There weren't many shots on goal in the game between the Detroit Red Wings and New Jersey Devils.

Both teams combined for only 32 shots on goal, and only 11 came from the Devils.

That was more of a dominant performance by the Red Wings as they picked up a 3-1 victory in New Jersey on Friday.

Johan Franzen's goal at 12:40 of the third period broke a 1-1 tie, and Tomas Tatar put the game out of reach with a power play goal with 1:03 left in the game. Jonas Gustavsson had to make only 10 saves on a fairly easy night.

The wings were playing without Pavel Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg, Darren Helm, and Danny DeKeyser.

"We've got to keep it going," Franzen said. "It's tough without our big guys, but it's important knowing we can win without them."

The 11 shots on goal tied a franchise low for the Devils, whose only goal came from Andy Greene on the power play at 13:43 of the first.

The Wings did not get on the board until late in the second period after Joakim Andersson collected a rebound from a miss by Drew Miller and beat Cory Schneider for his fourth goal of the season, and first in 15 games.

Franzen broke the tie with his ninth goal of the year after he received a pass from Gustav Nyquist and fired a wrister past Schneider.

The power play that led to Tatar's goal didn't come without controversy. Schneider came out of the crease to play the puck, but he had touched it while it was in the trapezoid area, which is a delay of game violation (rule 1.8).

Schneider was furious with the call and tried to plead his case, but to no avail.

Tatar's goal, which was his sixth of the year, came after Dainus Zubrus turned the puck over off of a tie-up on the face off.

Gustavsson picked up his eighth win of the season.
