The injuries are starting to pile up for the Detroit Red Wings just as they had started to win games.

The team learned today that leading scorer and captain Henrik Zetterberg will miss at least two weeks with a herniated back disc.

Zetterberg said that he was experiencing back spasms before Sunday's game in Ottawa. He later had an MRI after the game.

"It's kind of been going on the last bit," Zetterberg said. "In Ottawa, I knew something was not right. Saw the doc, and I have some issues in my back that need to be taken care of."

Zetterberg has had back problems before in his career, as he missed 19 games in the 2006-07 season, and various games after that. He had not had any previous issues with the herniated disc.

"I've been through this before," he said. "Maybe I'm a little bit calmer than when it happened last time. Just have to put the trust in the docs."

Zetterberg will not skate for those two weeks, which likely means he could be out of game action until before Christmas. As of now, he will not need back surgery.

Meanwhile, Pavel Datsyuk still remains out with a concussion sustained on November 23. Datsyuk has missed the last four games, and no timetable has been given for a return.

"He went to see a specialist today." Wings GM Ken Holland said. "I know he skated Monday."

Holland also said that Datsyuk needs at least three full practices before returning, which likely puts him out until next week.

Todd Bertuzzi also remains out with a bruised shoulder, but was on the ice for practice today. He could return as early as this weekend.

Danny DeKeyser is also still out with a broken shoulder, and may not return until January.

EMMERTON RECALLED: The club has also recalled Cory Emmerton from the Grand Rapids Griffins today to play Wednesday night against the Philadelphia Flyers.
