Red Wings Update: The Red Wings ended a four-game losing skid at the hands of the Vancouver Canucks in a 2-1 verdict on Wednesday. Daniel Alfredsson and Tomas Tatar both scored, while Jimmy Howard stopped 19 of 20 shots. The Wings continue to be led by Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg, who have 12 points each on the year. Alfredsson has contributed 11 points, and should continue to be a factor. In terms of injuries, Jonas Gustavsson (neck) is out, and Jonathan Ericsson (shoulder) remains out. Johan Frnazen will return tonight after sitting Wednesday. Petr Mrazek was recalled from Grand Rapids to serve as Howard's backup.
Flames Update: The Flames have hit a rough spot after a relatively solid start to the year, as they have lost three of their last four. The most recent outing was a 4-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday. Matt Stajan and David Jones scored the only goals for the Flames, while Karri Ramo made 18 saves. Former Red Wing Jiri Hudler leads the Flames in scoring with 13 points, and rookie Sean Monahan leads in the goal department with six. The Flames have been hit with some significant injuries, as Mark Giordano (ankle) and Lee Stempniak (foot) are out.
Players to Watch:
Mike Cammalleri: The Former University of Michigan star has scored 22 points in 22 games against the Wings.
Curtis Glencross: He was a force against the Wings last season, and could be called upon more with Stempniak out.
Sean Monahan: With all the hype surrounding Seth Jones, Nathan MacKinnon, and Tomas Hertl, Monahan has made some noise amongst the rookies so far.
Joey MacDonald: The former Red Wing has been steady in net for the Flames, given he had to replace a legend in Miikka Kiprusoff, who retired back in September.
Prediction: This is basically a revamped Flames team, as the only players who scored against the Wings last season still on the roster are Glencross, Cammalleri, and Dennis Wideman. This is a team that can score a lot of goals, but they also give up a lot of goals. The last time the Wings won at the Saddledome was January 31, 2012. Look for the Wings to exorcize some demons in a wild game.
Make It: Red Wings 5, Flames 4 in OT
