Flyers Update: Apart from the Sabres, the Flyers have gotten off to the worst start this season, with their only win coming against the Florida Panthers. That win came after Peter Laviolette was fired and Berube was named the interim coach. The feeling quickly wore off after a 2-1 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes on Friday. Max Talbot scored the lone goal, while Steve Mason stopped 31 shots. Brayden Schenn leads the Flyers with two goals, but as a team, they have only scored seven all season. None of those goals have come from team captain Claude Giroux or Scott Hartnell. Hartnell (upper body) and Vincent Lecavalier (lower body) are both out. Tye McGinn and Michael Raffl were recalled from the AHL to play. Raffl will make his NHL debut tonight
Red Wings Update: The struggles for the Red Wings continued, as they lost 4-2 to the Coyotes on Thursday. Joakim Andersson and Jonathan Ericsson each scored, and Jimmy Howard stopped 34 shots. Henrik Zetterberg's two goals lead the Wings, but much like the Flyers, the goal scoring isn't very strong as the team has eight goals on the year. Babcock has done some line shuffling to spark the offense. The team also recalled Luke Glendening from the AHL to make his NHL debut tonight. Patrick Eaves (knee) and Darren Helm (groin) are both out for tonight, but Jordin Tootoo is back from a shoulder injury.
What to watch for tonight:
Centers of Attention: Datsyuk and Giroux are two of the best at their positions, an the matchup between the two will be the best one on the ice.
Power-less Play: Both the Flyers and Red Wings power play can be described with this picture. The Wings have yet to strike on the power play this season, while the Flyers rank 28th at 8.7%.
Where's Alfie? Daniel Alfredsson still has yet to find the back of the net as a Red Wing, but he has been successful against the Flyers in his career, posting 47 points (16 goals, 31 assists) in 55 games. Babcock placed him on the third line with fellow Swede Joakim Andersson and Dan Cleary (who has some history with the Flyers).
Familiar and not so Familiar Faces: Jimmy Howard has faced the Flyers once in his career; he was pulled after two periods and took the loss on January 2, 2011. For the Flyers, Ray Emery is 3-0-0 against the Wings in his career, and Mason either was really awful or really good against the Wings during his time with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Think Pink: Tonight is Breast Cancer Awareness night at the Joe, and Howard will be sporting a pink helmet, pink glove, pink blocker, and pink pads.
Prediction: This isn't your father's Flyers team, but they have been a hard team to knock out. Tonight's game looks like a low scoring affair. The first one to two goals will likely win it. We'll give the edge to the team with the goalie in pink.
Make It: Red Wings 2, Flyers 1.
