Nyquist was the last RFA the Wings needed to sign. The club signed Joakim Andersson to a two-year deal earlier this month.
A fourth-round pick out of Maine in the 2008 NHL Draft, Nyquist chipped in six points (three goals, three assists) in 22 games with the Wings last season. He also recorded five points (two goals, three assists) in 14 playoff games, including an overtime winner in the series against the Anaheim Ducks.
The Wings now have 16 forwards under contract for the 2013-14 season. They are also about $600,000 over the salary cap, but they don't need to trim the roster until the season begins in October.
Darren Helm and Mikael Samuelsson are two question marks for the upcoming season, as both have battled injuries. If they aren't healthy at the start of the season, they could be placed on long term injured reserve to avoid their salaries from counting against the cap.
Reports have also surfaced that the Wings are trying to re-sign Daniel Cleary, who is an unrestricted free agent. In order to clear some space, Jordin Tootoo or Cory Emmerton could get moved via trade.
