Top three picks are like gold in the NBA. In a league where only five players are on the court at a time, one superstar can make all the difference. The NBA’s draft lottery has the ability to completely change an organization’s future, if you can get a little bit lucky.
This year more than ever the draft lottery will be extremely crucial for the teams involved. A talented draft class is just waiting for the teams that are fortunate enough to snatch them up come draft night. Young superstars like Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker, and Joel Embiid will look to make an immediate impact with their new NBA teams.
The great drama of the draft lottery is that it all happens on live TV. You get to see it play out, and find out which teams hit the jackpot that is the young incoming talent.
The Detroit Pistons will be represented by Kyle Singler on lottery night, and are hoping the former Duke standout can bring some luck to a franchise that needs it. The Pistons have the eighth best odds to acquire the first overall pick, but there is also a scenario where they don’t get a pick at all.
If a team behind the Pistons strikes gold, and is able to land one of the top three picks it would push the Pistons back to the ninth overall pick. In that case the Pistons would send their pick to the Charlotte Bobcats from the Ben Gordon trade back in 2012. Chances are the Pistons will keep their pick, but anything can happen in the lottery.
If the Pistons stay in the top eight they will keep their selection.
Hopefully Singler can bring the good luck the Pistons desperately need right about now.
