After months of waiting, fans can start getting even more excited for the upcoming season. The NFL has released its regular season schedule for 2014. For the Detroit Lions, 2014 looks to be an interesting season.
Even though the Lions will not have much primetime presence, they will have a few notable games this season. They open up their regular season on a Monday night at home against the New York Giants, which will mark the first time they open their season on a Monday night since 1971. The Lions will also be participating in the International Series as they face the Atlanta Falcons at Wembley Stadium in London, England. For their annual Thanksgiving afternoon matchup, they will host their division rivals, the Chicago Bears.
There will be a fair share of teams of all calibers, and the bye week comes at a perfect time for the Lions as they will have week nine off. In the first seven weeks, they will face some tough competition such as the Green Bay Packers, Carolina Panthers, and New Orleans Saints. The second half of the season, the Lions will have an even tougher group to face, which includes the Arizona Cardinals, New England Patriots, and the Bears and Packers to close out the season.
The Lions' schedule have the 16th toughest schedule in the NFL. The .492 winning percentage of their 2014 opponents from last year will come off as encouraging. In addition, they will play four teams that made the playoffs last season and four teams that just missed the postseason. After all is said and done, the Lions will have faced a very balanced schedule. 2014 will definitely be a challenge for the Detroit Lions.
Now that minicamp has started, the schedule has been released, and the NFL Draft is on the way, things are really starting to get exciting. It will be interesting to see what the Lions do from now until the start of the season and how the season unfolds.
