Momentum is a funny thing. One week it appears, the next, it's gone just as fast. Such is the case in football, and even in Pooch's Picks, as well. Cooper put the finishing touches on a sterling 10-4 week, in which he managed to gain on his human competitor despite a solid 9-5 finish.
Yes, 9-5 isn't bad, but the competition is snagging correct picks quicker than low hanging Milk Bones. Even Izzy, fresh off a pedestrian 6-8 performance, is still alive. Week eight brings some new challenges, including selection of another potentially lousy Monday Night game and questions surrounding what to do with the Detroit Lions. Regardless, here's some thoughts on the weekend ahead.
Dallas at Detroit: Wasting no time, we get right to the main show this week, as the Lions try to rebound from last week's heartbreak. Cooper likes Detroit to win, while Izzy thinks the Cowboys keep the Lions reeling. Agreeing with Izzy in this case. C: Detroit, I: Dallas, M: Dallas
Cleveland at Kansas City: The Browns head on the road trying to be the first team to defeat the hot Chiefs. The dogs aren't taking the bait, as both think Kansas City gets the job done. They do. C: Kansas City, I: Kansas City, M: Kansas City
Miami at New England: Cooper takes the Patriots to win, and Izzy take the Dolphins to pull the upset. That's not going to happen, as the Patriots have Rob Gronkowski back. C: New England, I: Miami, M: New England
Buffalo at New Orleans: Izzy believes somehow, the Bills go into the Superdome and beat the Saints. Cooper disagrees, and he's right. New Orleans is a tough team, and even tougher at home. C: New Orleans, I: Buffalo, M: New Orleans
New York Giants at Philadelphia: Break up the Giants, who've won one in a row! Cooper likes the momentum to continue this week, while Izzy thinks the Eagles win at home. Considering how bad they played, the Eagles will win at home. C: New York Giants, I: Philadelphia, M: Philadelphia
San Francisco at Jacksonville: The Jaguars don't stand a chance in this game. Not even the dogs are picking them. C: San Francisco, I: San Francisco, M: San Francisco
New York Jets at Cincinnati: The Bengals scored a big win at the buzzer last weekend against the Lions. Cooper likes them to stay hot and win, while Izzy thinks the Jets build off their overtime momentum. Cincinnati's a tough team, though, and they prove it again. C: Cincinnati, I: New York Jets, M: Cincinnati
Pittsburgh at Oakland: The Steelers are suddenly hot after upending the Ravens at home last weekend. Izzy likes their winning ways to continue, while Cooper takes the Raiders and the Black Hole. Oakland is a tough place to win, and the Steelers can't pull it off. C: Oakland, I: Pittsburgh, M: Oakland
Washington at Denver: After their shocking loss to the Colts last weekend, the Broncos go back home to take on one of the worst passing defenses in football. Izzy agrees that this one could get ugly, but Cooper disagrees with us and takes the Redskins. Interesting pick. C: Washington, I: Denver, M: Denver
Atlanta at Arizona: The Falcons are reeling, but feeling better after winning last week. The Cardinals, meanwhile, are tough in the desert. Cooper likes the Falcons to win two in a row, while Izzy takes Arizona to get another win. The Cardinals get it done at home: C: Atlanta, I: Arizona, M: Arizona
Green Bay at Minnesota: Once upon a time, this rivalry game would be tough and hard hitting. This year? Not so much. Despite all their offensive and quarterbacking problems, Cooper takes the Vikings to win at home. Izzy finally returns to picking the Packers. The Metrodome is a tough place to play, but Green Bay is tougher right now. C: Minnesota, I: Green Bay, M: Green Bay
Seattle at St. Louis (Monday Night): Nobody figured Sam Bradford would be felled by an ACL injury, so again, this matchup looked much better on paper. Cooper thinks somehow the Rams get the job done at home, while Izzy likes the Seahawks. Nobody knows who will play quarterback for the Rams, so on that principle alone, Seattle wins. C: St. Louis, I: Seattle, M: Seattle
