The Detroit Lions faded late against the Cincinnati Bengals, meaning they could not sweep the series with the state of Ohio in 2013. In spite of this, the Lions haven't suffered much in the power rankings, staying close to the same places they were a week ago.
Some questions are arising about Detroit's defense, but considering what's going on in the division, most agree the Lions are still in good shape heading into a big match up this weekend with the Dallas Cowboys.
ESPN: 11th. Last Week: 11th. ESPN keeps the Lions on the cusp of the top ten and wonders if Reggie Bush is key to the Lions' offense. In wins, they say bush is averaging 5.5 yards per rush and in losses, only 2.8. That's a sizeable difference, indeed.
CBS Sports: 11th. Last Week: 11th. Pete Prisco says the Lions are still in good shape within the division, but says the defense needs to be much better if they're to make the playoffs. Considering the amount of big plays allowed last week to A.J. Green, that's very true.
Fox Sports: 12th. Last Week 9th. Brian Billick is the first to move the Lions down dramatically this week, but provides an uplifting statistic which shows hope. Calvin Johnson, after seven games this season, has more touchdowns than he did all of last year. That's good news.
Pro Football Talk: 12th. Last Week: 9th. Mike Florio is the first to admit that the seat under Jim Schwartz and Martin Mayhew could be getting warmer. Continue losing like Sunday with the type of coaching errors Detroit sustained and Florio could be right on the money.
NFL.com: 10th. Last Week: 10th. Elliot Harrison says the Lions have a bit of an identity crisis, considering they played well, yet still need to win game's like Sunday's to reach the playoffs. Harrison is correct in intimating this weekend's game against the Cowboys is a big deal. A win and Detroit's right back on the right track. A loss? Who knows.
Highest Rank: 10th
Lowest Rank: 12th
Their Overall Consensus? The Lions lost to a solid Cincinnati team on Sunday, and need to iron out defensive concerns and find Reggie Bush more to win. Regardless, the team is still in good shape, especially heading into this weekend's contest with Dallas.
