The road has been a popular place for the 3-2 Detroit Lions throughout the first few weeks of the 2013 season. Thus far, the team has managed to survive, but another major challenge comes this week in the form of the Cleveland Browns.
Speaking of challenges, none could be as great, at this point, than trying to shake the pooch's in Pooch's Picks. The dogs had another solid week, with Cooper turning in a great 9-4 record, and Izzy not that far behind at 8-5. How did the misfit human do? Just another lousy 7-6 week, allowing Cooper to widen his first place lead.
All great teams make a run, and during week six, the same will have to be true for those of us with two legs. The dogs stick together on plenty of picks this week, liking Denver, Kansas City Baltimore and Buffalo, meaning the opportunity could finally exist for a move to be made. Will it happen?
Cincinnati at Buffalo: Both dogs think the Bengals are in trouble on the road this week after their big win against New England last weekend. It's a nice thought, but Buffalo lost E.J. Manuel in their last game. Cincinnati wins big behind defense. C: Buffalo, I: Buffalo, M: Cincinnati
Detroit at Cleveland: A week after taking the Packers, Izzy somehow finds her way back to the Lions. Cooper disagrees, aligning himself with the Dawg Pound. It won't be easy without Calving Johnson, but something says he plays and the Lions manage a close win. C: Cleveland, I: Detroit, M: Detroit
Oakland at Kansas City: The Chiefs could be football's hottest team, and they have to host the Raiders in an AFC West rivalry game. The dogs don't see a letdown on the horizon, and it's true. Oakland plays well on the road, but Kansas City remains a nice surprise. C: Kansas City, I: Kansas City, M: Kansas City
Carolina at Minnesota: The Vikings signed Josh Freeman to be their quarterback this past week. Or did they? Cooper doesn't care, taking Carolina. Freeman will make something happen, though, leading Izzy to take the Vikings. Good pick, especially with Adrian Peterson going against C: Carolina, I: Minnesota, M: Minnesota
Pittsburgh at New York Jets: The Steelers are struggling at 0-4, and the dogs don't think life gets any better for Pittsburghers this weekend. They're right. The Jets have some momentum, too, meaning things could get ugly in this one. C: Jets, I: Jets, M: Jets
Philadelphia at Tampa Bay: Oddly, a split ticket here, as Cooper likes the Eagles to win and Izzy thinks the Buccaneers quickly right their ship. Too bad it's already sunk. Eagles win this one in blowout fashion. C: Philadelphia, I: Tampa Bay, M: Philadelphia
Green Bay at Baltimore: Coming off a big win against Detroit, one would think the pups would be all in on the Packers, especially closet Packer fan Izzy. No way, as they each go with the Ravens here. They're right, but it's a close game. C: Baltimore, I: Baltimore, M: Baltimore
St. Louis at Houston: Few things have been as tough or embarrassing as the way Matt Schaub and the Houston Texans have lost games lately. This weekend, in theory, they've got a great shot to get healthy against the Rams. Cooper is in agreement, while Izzy is the only one giving the Rams a chance. C: Houston, I: St. Louis, M: Houston
Jacksonville at Denver: No analysis needed here. The Broncos win big. Period. C: Denver, I: Denver, M: Denver
Tennessee at Seattle: Just like the Broncos game, it's hard to see the Titans keeping the game close against the Seahawks in front of the 12th man, It's close for a while, but Seattle runs away with this in the end. C: Seattle, I: Seattle, M: Seattle
New Orleans at New England: A big game here, as a few top teams square off from Foxborough. Cooper likes the Patriots while Izzy likes the Saints. Going with Izzy again on this one, and not picking against a good New Orleans defense and solid offense. C: New England, I: New Orleans, M: New Orleans
Arizona at San Francisco: Sneaky good game as the Cardinals take on the 49ers. Cooper agrees that San Francisco is the team to beat at home, while Izzy goes out on a limb and predicts a big upset in the NFC West. C: San Francisco, I: Arizona, M: San Francisco
Washington at Dallas: Cooper emphatically picks the Redskins to pull the road upset, while Izzy sticks with the Cowboys. Off that last loss, Tony Romo should be motivated and comes through with a big performance. C: Washington, I: Dallas, M: Dallas
Indianapolis at San Diego (Monday night): The Chargers have blown plenty of games this season, but they get a chance to make good in primetime on Monday. Cooper thinks it happens, and he's right. Izzy seems to disagree. C: San Diego, I: Indianapolis, M: San Diego
