Pooch’s Picks, Week 3: Dogs not Betting on Detroit Lions to End Losing Streak in Washington

Even though this segment is merely two weeks old, it's becoming clear these dogs might know what they're doing picking football games. Though Izzy took a step back last week, Cooper, her brother, surged ahead and is now threatening to bite the hand that feeds him.

Yes, the human is still in first place, but only by a slim one game margin. Neither dog is below .500, and both have picked their fair share of stunners, including accurately projecting the Detroit Lions to lose last week. Will that be the case again as Detroit hits the road? Wag your tail, because pooch's picks brings some intrigue to week three in the NFL.

Green Bay at Cincinnati: With a loss behind them, Cooper likes the Bengals to keep things rolling this week and hit 2-1. Izzy, however, remains a Packer backer. The Bengals' home crowd boosts them in a statement game, though. C: Cincinnati I: Green Bay, M: Cincinnati

St Louis at Dallas: The Cowboys had a rough fall back to earth last week with a road loss. This week, everyone likes them to get healthy coming back home to face the Rams, who struggled on the road in Atlanta last week. Clean slate here. C: Dallas, I: Dallas, M: Dallas

San Diego at Tennessee: Two of the more interesting stories in the NFL here. The Chargers showed mettle with a tough road win in Philadelphia last weekend. A sign of things to come and a changed team? Neither dog thinks so, as both take the Titans. Their human isn't duped as easy by the Titans, though, as Phillip Rivers has turned over a new leaf and proves it with another road win. C: Tennessee, I: Tennessee, M: Tennessee

Cleveland at Minnesota: A battle of 0-2 teams here, where someone will get healthy. Cooper thinks it's the Vikings at home for the first time this season, and that's a wise pick. Izzy rolls the dice on the Browns for the second straight week. Will it bite her again? C: Minnesota, I: Cleveland, M: Minnesota

Tampa Bay at New England: Everyone likes Tampa Bay to continue to walk the plank. New England's offense is a mess, but the Buccaneers' situation is much, much messier. C: New England, I: New England, M: New England

Arizona at New Orleans: Both dogs picked Arizona to win last week, but this time, only Izzy is buying into the birds again. Cooper sticks with the Saints and he's right. They move to 3-0. C: New Orleans, I: Arizona, M: New Orleans

Detroit at Washington: The Lions have never won in Washington and neither dog knows that fact. Yet, there they are, picking against Detroit again and expecting the Redskins to get the job done and move from the ranks of the winless. They do, as the Lions get off to a maddening 1-2 start themselves. Can't pick against history. C: Washington, I: Washington, M: Washington

New York Giants at Carolina: The Giants try to grab their first win away from home and Cooper likes the "G Men." Izzy thinks Cam Newton and the Panthers win one. She's wrong, though. The Giants are built to win games like this on the road. C: Giants. I: Panthers, M: Giants

Houston at Baltimore: In a redux of an exciting playoff game from a few years back, the Texans face a stiff road test in Charm City. Both dogs like the Ravens to win, but that's not happening. Houston's too good, and with Ed Reed's inside knowledge on their side, they have a leg up. C: Baltimore, I: Baltimore, M: Houston

Atlanta at Miami: The Dolphins are a surprise 2-0 team, and Cooper's buying in. He takes the 'Fins to knock off the Falcons at home. Izzy stays with the safe pick and takes Atlanta. The Dolphins give them a battle, but the Falcons are too tough. C: Miami, I: Atlanta, M: Atlanta

Buffalo at New York Jets: In the toss up of all toss ups, a case could be made for either team to win or lose this game. Both dogs think home field advantage counts for something, picking Rex Ryan's Jets to win. The Bills needed a miracle to avoid going 0-2, so in this case, the dogs are right. C: Jets, I: Jets, M: Jets

Indianapolis at San Francisco: Cooper goes out on a major limb, taking the Colts to pull a major upset on the road. Izzy is smart on this one, not picking against Jim Harbaugh following a loss. That's the right move, and he won't lose. C: Indianapolis, I: San Francisco, M: San Francisco

Jacksonville at Seattle: In a game with a hefty spread (19.5 for the home team) Cooper wisely takes the Seahawks. Izzy, however, curiously picks the Jaguars to win on the road in the most hostile environment in football. Good for her. C: Seattle, I: Jacksonville, M: Seattle

Chicago at Pittsburgh: Though they haven't looked good, Cooper sticks with his roots and picks the Steelers to get their first win of the year. Izzy takes the impressive Bears to emerge undefeated, though. Breaking this tie isn't easy, but Pittsburgh manages to get the job done somehow. C: Pittsburgh, I: Chicago, M: Pittsburgh

Oakland at Denver (Monday night): Nobody in their right mind gives the Raiders a prayer of winning this game, right? In this case, that's true. Both Izzy and Cooper take the Broncos to win, and despite the absence of Ryan Clady (which will hurt down the line), Denver takes care of business. C: Denver, I: Denver, M: Denver

Standings:

Max: 20-10

Cooper: 19-11

Izzy: 16-14
