Newest Maverick Dejuan Blair is shaking things up even before the season has started. The former San Antonio Spurs Center/Power Forward slammed his former head coach, Gregg Popovich in a press conference, complaining about playing time, which apparently, wasn’t the first time.
“Of course I want to get back. I don't think we've would have came up short if I would've played but, hey, keep that out there.”
Blair recorded only a mere four minutes in Game Four, and six in Game Five in the NBA Finals this past season. With the jab at Popovich, this will certainly ignite some fire to the Spurs-Mavericks rivalry, and it’s certain that Spurs fans will have something to say about it come January 8th when the teams first meet. As stated before this wasn’t Blair’s first comment about playing time, and stunts like this is something that Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle will most certainly not tolerate, something Carlisle has made very clear in the past.
“When you're talking about winning at the highest level, individual needs for minutes and touches, if that stuff comes into the equation, then you got guys who aren't about the right things,” said Carlisle. "We address those issues if they come up, obviously. Anybody who presents themselves with that kind of selfishness isn't deserving of being in a Mavericks' uniform. This isn't going to be about role definition. It's going to be about role acceptance.”
With this in mind and with the 2013-2014 season quickly approaching, Blair is going have to make some attitude adjustments if he wants a successful and full season as a Dallas Maverick, if not, Blair could face some problems down the road.
