The time has come once again for hockey fans to vote for the player they want to see on the cover of EA Sports yearly hockey game, the latest edition to be NHL '15. As was the case last year, the Colorado Avalanche's own Matt Duchene is one of the players who fans can vote for to appear on the cover. Of course, as is well known, legendary goaltender Martin Brodeur was the fans' choice for NHL '14, and deservedly so. Brodeur has had a career that puts him alongside Avalanche legend Patrick Roy in terms of their place in hockey history. But it's a new year, and this time there are only seven other players whom Duchene would have to beat out to make it to the cover.
The other candidates for the cover of NHL '15 are Phil Kessel, P.K. Subban, Patrice Burgeron, Erik Karlsson, Logan Couture, Drew Doughty and T.J. Oshie. The first round of voting, which is underway and will last through the 18th, has Duchene going up against Oshie. Both are highly dynamic young players who are increasing in fame as they get further into their careers. It is hard to say what Duchene's chances of getting to the second round of voting are, but with only eight total players in the entire pool of candidates, his odds of ending up on the cover are appreciably higher than they were a year ago.
There has been talk among certain circles of Avalanche fans that Nathan MacKinnon would be a good choice to be the game's cover athlete. No doubt there will be many official opportunities in what promises to be a stellar career for the still 18 year old phenom. For now, Duchene is the established star representative of the Avalanche, and surely no fan of the team would be disappointed to see his likeness on the cover of the latest hockey video game from EA Sports. The fact that Colorado has more than one player for whom a good case could be made to be on the cover shows the direction the team is heading in.Tags: Colorado, Colorado Avalanche, Hockey, Matt Duchene, Nathan MacKinnon, NHL, NHL '15
