Even with the lockout, Colorado management still have decisions to make. So, with defenseman Joel Chouinard not able to crack the lineup with Lake Erie, Avalanche GM Greg Sherman re-assigned him to the Denver Cutthroats of the Central Hockey League.

The former sixth-round pick in 2008 has spent the last two seasons with the Monsters, totaling 27 points in 88 games. He will be wearing number 40 with Denver, who hosts the Texas Brahmas at the Denver Coliseum. Chouinard had a very successful junior career with the Victoriaville Tigres, notching 144 points in 221 games.

To make room for Chouinard, the Cutthroats sent defenseman Steve Makway to Bloomington for future considerations. Also, Denver signed forward Gabe Gauthier and waived forward Tony Mosey.
