The Cleveland Indians added catching depth by signing Matt Treanor to a minor-league deal and inviting him to spring training.
Treanor missed the 2013 season due to surgery on his lef knee, but he served as a backup catcher for the previous two seasons with the Kansas City Royals, Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Dodgers. He broke into the big leagues with the Florida Marlins in 2004 and also played briefly with the Detroit Tigers in 2009.
Treanor will be the Tribe's third option at catcher behind Yan Gomes and Carlos Santana.
