The Cleveland Indians took the next step in their offseason dance with Ubaldo Jimenez by extending a qualifying offer to him on Monday.
If Jimenez accepts the one-year, $14 million offer, he will join Justin Masterson to form a devastating one-two punch in the Tribe rotation.
But before you get excited, Jimenez has until Nov. 11 to accept or decline the offer, and he will probably say no to Cleveland and yes to more years and millions more dollars elsewhere.
If Jimenez walks away, the Tribe will get an extra pick between the first and second rounds of the 2014 draft.
Can you really blame him?
The Indians only extended the qualifying offer to Jimenez, so Scott Kazmir, Rich Hill, Matt Albers, Joe Smith, Kelly Shoppach and Jason Kubel are free to seek their fortune on the open market, according to MLB.com reporter Jordan Bastian.
