Jon Lester beat Adam Wainwright for the second time as the Boston Red Sox won Game 5 of the World Series over the St. Louis Cardinals 3-1 last night.
Lester pitched 7 2/3 innings, giving up just four hits and a run. Koji Uehara finished the game for his second save of the series.
Wainwright pitched well, striking out 10 hitters in seven innings, but Lester outdueled him.
David Ortiz continues his otherworldly hitting (.733) with an RBI double in the first inning to score Dustin Pedroia.
St. Louis left fielder Matt Holliday tied the game by slamming a 423-foot home run to center field in the fourth inning.
Boston catcher David Ross broke the tie in the seventh inning with a ground-rule double to score Xander Bogaerts. Jacoby Ellsbury followed with a single to score Stephen Drew. Ross tried to score, too, but he was thrown out at the plate.
Game 6 will take place at Fenway Park on Wednesday night. John Lackey will start for Boston against Cardinals rookie sensation Michael Wacha.
