The first reaction to the end of the Cleveland Indians’ successful 2013 season is … let’s do it again next year! Can they bring back the same crew with some additions?
One of the downsides to some of the Indians’ past successes is watching their greatest players eventually leave the team for more lucrative contracts away from Cleveland.
This year’s crop of potential free agents includes designated hitter Jason Giambi and starting pitchers Ubaldo Jimenez and Scott Kazmir.
All three expressed happiness as members of the Tribe in a story by MLB.com writer Mark Emery. However, Jimenez was so unhittable in the second half of the season that you can almost hear other teams sending truckloads of money to dump on his front porch.
Even if the Tribe loses Jimenez and Kazmir, they still have four solid starters returning next year in Justin Masterson, Zach McAllister, Danny Salazar and Corey Kluber. Maybe Trevor Bauer or Carlos Carrasco will be ready to join them.
