The Cleveland Indians will host Tampa Bay in the American League wild card game after the Rays won a tiebreaker in Texas last night 5-2.
David Price (10-8) ensured that the Rays bullpen will be fresh in Cleveland by pitching a complete game. He gave up seven hits and two runs, walking one and striking out four.
Evan Longoria's 32nd homer in the third, a two-run shot to right center field, put the Rays up 3-0. Tampa Bay’s third baseman also singled, doubled and scored another run in the sixth on a double by David DeJesus.
Cleveland will send Danny Salazar (2-3, 3.12 ERA) to the mound for the one-game playoff at Progressive Field. The Rays will counter with their own rookie star, Alex Cobb (11-3, 2.76 ERA). The game is sold out and will air at 8 p.m. on TBS.
The winner will play a best-of-five AL Divisional Series, starting in Boston on Friday night.
