Masterson suffered a rib injury and will undergo a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) test today to determine its severity, ESPN reported.
Cleveland also got some good injury news. ESPN reported that outfielder Ryan Raburn and pitcher Cory Kluber will return this week. Raburn may be back tonight, while Kluber will pitch in relief of Scott Kazmir on Friday, according to manager Terry Francona.
Baltimore scored three times in the second inning and expanded the lead to 5-0 on a two-run homer in the fourth inning by Nate McLouth.
The Indians tried to scratch their way back into the game on solo home runs by Jason Kipnis in the seventh inning and Lonnie Chisenhall in the eighth.
However, Baltimore got those runs back in the ninth inning when catcher Matt Wieters drilled a two-run home run off Marc Rzepczynski, who gave up his first earned runs since joining the Tribe in late July.
Detroit beat Boston 3-0 to extend its lead over the Tribe to 8.5 games in the AL Central. The Indians did not lose ground in the wild-card race against Tampa Bay, which got crushed 11-2 by the Los Angeles Angels.
The Tribe will send Ubaldo Jimenez (9-9) to the mound tonight to face the Orioles at 7:05 p.m.
