The Cleveland Indians finished a three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Angels with a 3-1 victory on Wednesday in Anaheim.
The Tribe finished their road trip with a 6-3 record and are now 69-58, surpassing last season’s win total.
In the playoff picture, the Indians are now 2.5 games behind the Oakland A’s for the second wild-card spot.
Nick Swisher continued his hot streak at the plate with a two-run homer in the third inning to give the Tribe a 2-0 lead. Swisher now has 15 home runs and 43 RBI.
The Angels cut the lead in half in the sixth when catcher Hank Conger doubled in the sixth inning to score Josh Hamilton.
However, Justin Masterson (pictured) and the Tribe bullpen allowed no further damage. Masterson (14-9) lasted 6 2/3 innings, walking five and striking out seven.
Rich Hill got the final out in the seventh. Cody Allen struck out three Angels in the eighth, and Chris Perez struck out two in the ninth to lock down his 20th save.
Cleveland’s final run came in the top of the ninth when Mike Aviles scored on a wild pitch by Angels reliever Dane De La Rosa.
The Indians have the day off today. They will host the Minnesota Twins this weekend for a three-game series before hitting the road again. Ubaldo Jimenez (9-7) will take the mound for Cleveland at 7:05 on Friday night.
