The Cleveland Browns’ wheel of quarterbacks landed on Caleb Hanie yesterday, and the former Chicago Bear could be running the Browns’ offense this Sunday against the New England Patriots.
Hanie has played in 10 games in his six-year NFL career, all with the Chicago Bears. The 28-year-old was a backup with the Denver Broncos last year and was cut in training camp this year by the Baltimore Ravens.
Hanie may start because Jason Campbell and Brandon Weeden have not been cleared to practice after suffering concussions. Alex Tanney has never played in an NFL game, and he’s only been a Cleveland Brown one week longer than Hanie.
To make room for Hanie, the Browns placed special-teamer/linebacker Brandon Magee on the injured list with a pectoral injury.
