Travis Benjamin could have taken the second half off against the Buffalo Bills, and he still would have won the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week award.
Benjamin became the second Browns player to win the honor already this year. Punter Spencer Lanning won the award in Week 3.
In the first half of the Bills game, Benjamin outran the opposition for a 79-yard punt return for a touchdown. He also added a 57-yard return to rack up a total of 179 punt return yards. He set a new Browns record, surpassing Eric Metcalf’s 166 yards against the Pittsburgh Steelers 20 years ago.
In addition, Benjamin has given future opponents something to worry about, which could affect the length and direction of their punts and improve the Browns’ field position.
How did Benjamin get to be so fast? The Browns website tells the story that Benjamin used to chase rabbits when he was growing up in Florida.
