The Cleveland Browns weren’t trying to be coy when they said they weren’t interested in Josh Freeman. The agent for the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback announced late last night that his client would sign with the Minnesota Vikings.

This is good news for Brandon Weeden, who gained an extra measure of job security. Jason Campbell is the only other quarterback on the roster.

Freeman will now join Christian Ponder and Matt Cassel on the Vikings’ roster. Ponder lost the first three games for Minnesota before suffering a fractured rib. Cassel started against Pittsburgh in London and recorded the Vikings’ first win.

Freeman fell out of favor in Tampa Bay after the Buccaneers’ staggered to an 0-4 start. ESPN reported that Freeman signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Vikings.

What does this mean to the Browns? With Brian Hoyer out for the season, the first-place Browns can only hang onto a piece of the AFC North lead (with the Bengals and Ravens) though the abilities of Brandon Weeden.
