The Cleveland Browns seem to be starting from Square One today, with a new quarterback and running back. That would seem to guarantee that they won’t win on the road today against the Minnesota Vikings.
However, the Vikings are 0-2, just like the Browns. They have given up more than 30 points each to their first two opponents. Could the Browns possibly win?
One major liability is the lack of cohesion on offense. Tailback Willis McGahee just joined the team a few days ago, and newly promoted quarterback Brian Hoyer needs to build chemistry with the Browns’ receivers.
The best strategy the Browns could use is the dump-off pass to the running backs. This worked against Minnesota in the first two games, as Reggie Bush of the Lions and Matt Forte of the Bears put up solid numbers on the ground and through the air.
Also, the Browns’ defense has performed so well, especially against the run, that they could keep it close.
Unfortunately, the new parts of the offensive machine will take a while to work together. One of these teams will avoid an 0-3 start, but it won’t be the Browns.
Prediction: Minnesota 20, Cleveland 17
