Brandon Weeden and top running back Trent Richardson will sit out to avoid injury before the regular season opener on Sept. 8, the Plain Dealer reported.
Some of the Browns starters should see a bit of action tonight at Soldier Field.
Head coach Rob Chudzinski said some of the team’s top players could see “10-12 reps,” according to the team’s website.
The backups will be fighting for their professional lives for most of the game, as the Browns have to cut from 75 players to 53 by Saturday.
The team juggled the roster a bit yesterday, placing cornerback Trevin Wade on waivers and replacing him with linebacker Eric Martin.
Wade was a seventh-round pick for the Browns last year. Martin is a rookie from Nebraska who was waived by the New Orleans Saints.
The Browns and Bears will kick off tonight at 8 o’clock locally on Channel 3.
