The Cleveland Browns coaches had to be encouraged by the team’s performance in last week’s 27-19 win over the St. Louis Rams.
However, the coaches need to see more progress, and four players who didn’t play against the Rams need to show what they can do against the Lions.
If the coaches could wrap Richardson up in bubble wrap until the regular season opener, they would. Unfortunately, they have to give him some playing time this week and next week in games that don’t really count.
Richardson is the star of the show on offense, and the Browns need a healthy season from him if they are going to make any noise in the AFC North this year.
He has been plagued by injuries in camp, just like in his entire career, and Hardesty is running out of time to make the team. He returned from a hamstring injury, only to leave yesterday’s practice with an injured thumb.
Dion Lewis and Brandon Jackson have been strong in camp, and Chris Ogbonnaya is staking his claim to the fullback spot. Hardesty has to get out on the field and make the most of his playing time.
TJ Ward and Jamoris Slaughter
These two safeties returned to practice after missing the Rams game with injuries. Ward is one of the defensive leaders at strong safety, and the Browns are looking forward to seeing if the rookie Slaughter can make things happen on defense and special teams.
