With the offseason underway for the Cincinnati Reds, eight minor leaguers are continuing their "off-season" in the Arizona Fall League (AFL).
The AFL is comprised of six teams and those six teams are split into two divisions. The league holds a draft in which 180 total players are chosen. These teams are comprised of mostly Double-A and Triple-A players while some Single-A players make the cut as well. These players are chosen via a position draft held by the Major League clubs.
Yorman Rodriguez, Travis Mattair, Tucker Barnhart and Ryan LaMarre are some notables as well as Jamie Walczak, Chad Rogers, Michael Lorenzen, and Drew Hayes. Many of these names may be familiar to Reds fans who follow the farm system closely.
The season, which started October 8th, runs until November 14th, a total of 31 games will be played. Through 16 games thus far, some Reds have already made an impact.
Tucker Barnhart has appeared in eight games thus far and is batting .304 (7-for-23) with two doubles and two RBI's. Yorman Rodriguez has a home run and five RBI's along with eight runs scored thru 11 games he has appeared in.
