Multiple reports reported Monday that the Cincinnati Reds would name Bryan Price as the new manager Tuesday during a press conference. He would replace Dusty Baker who was relieved of his managerial duties after losing to the Pittsburgh Pirates in the National League Wild Card Game.
The 51-year old has been the Reds pitching coach for the previous four seasons. He was named one of the possible candidates that included internal candidate Jim Riggleman and former Reds outfielder Paul O'Neill.
If reports are true, this would be the first managing position Price would hold in his coaching career. He has spent 10 years as a pitching coach for both the Seattle Mariners and the Arizona Diamondbacks before calling Cincinnati home. Price interviewed for the Miami Marlins skipper vacancy last year but Mike Redmond was eventually named manager.
Price has significantly improved the Reds pitching staff. They had the fourth-best ERA in the Majors and led the National league in strikeouts. In 2012, his staff was third in ERA and all five starters started at least 30 games.
