While it has been said the Reds general manager Walk Jocketty has contacted Price, no interview has been set nor has either party commented on the matter.
"We are not going to rush into anything," Jocketty said earlier in the week. "We probably won't do anything until after the World Series. I'm not going to rush just to get it over with."
As stated before, the other two probable candidates are Triple-A Louisville skipper Jim Riggleman and David Bell, who is the current third base coach for the Chicago Cubs.
Price has been the pitching coach since 2010. He's spent time as the pitching coach for the Seattle Mariners as well as the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 51-year old has helped the Reds pitching staff finish in the top ten in ERA twice in his tenure. Pitcher Bronson Arroyo gave Price his full support.
“I think he’d be unbelievable. He’s as organized as anyone in the game, he holds people as accountable as well as anyone I’ve seen. He doesn’t buy into stereotypical things in the game, things that other people buy into that I don’t feel are relevant."
The only downside to Price is that he has no managerial experience. The Cal-Berkeley prospect pitched in the Angels' and Mariners' farm system before hanging up his playing cleats and making the transition into coach.
