1. On this day in 1998, Sammy Sosa hit his 57th home run of the season. In doing so, Sosa broke the Chicago Cubs’ 68-year-old franchise record of 56, held by Hack Wilson (per baseball-reference.com).

2. The Chicago Cubs completed a three-game sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers yesterday, their first three-game sweep of a National League opponent since they swept the New York Mets three months ago on June 3rd-5th.
