Congratulations to the Fan of the Week: Johnny Phillips!! Here is Johnny’s one paragraph of airtime:

I grew up in Chicago and I have been a Cubs’ fan my entire life and this is the coolest thing ever! I’m on the Internet!! And now that I have your attention, where is the love for Eric Jokisch?? I don’t see how it’s possible not to support this kid if you are a true Cubs’ fan. For those of you who still haven’t seen the light, Jokisch was a stud at Northwestern University, got drafted by the hometown team, threw a no-hitter last summer and is 42-35 with a 3.50 ERA in his minor league career!! Aaaaand he’s a lefty, can never have too many of those. What’s not to like?!?!?!? If Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer want to save some cash, bring Jokisch up. I’d be willing to bet he’s better than any lefty they could sign this off-season.

Johnny brings up a good point. We have discussed Eric Jokisch a number of times over the past couple of weeks and he is truly under the radar of most Cubs’ fans. Jokisch, 25, is hopeful of a September call-up, particularly since the Iowa Cubs’ playoff hopes are becoming slimmer by the day. The Cubs could use a reliable lefty on their staff, out of the ‘pen or in the rotation, and given his age, it’s time to find out if he can get big league hitters out. Jokisch is 9-10 with a 3.50 ERA this year in AAA and his 1.76 walks/9 IP could make him very effective at the big league level. Fingers crossed to seeing Jokisch at Wrigley Field next week!
