The Chicago Cubs have so many prospects who are dominating the minor leagues that it is hard to keep track of all of them. Usually the spotlight falls on Javier Baez, Kris Brant or Kyle Schwarber, but today we are going to highlight Arismendy Alcantara. Alcantara, second baseman for the Iowa Cubs (AAA) is putting together a fantastic season and it is about time we took notice.

Alcantara, 22, has been destroying AAA in every facet of the game and has proven himself as the Cubs’ most pro-ready prospect. While there is some debate over whether or not Baez and Bryant will be called up in September, due to performance and experience respectively, Alcantara is a lock to be playing at Wrigley this fall. The only question is where will he play? Alcantrara is a second baseman by nature but has played a handful of games in the outfield for the Iowa Cubs in preparation of a crowded Cubs’ infield.

Alcantara projects as an average defensive second baseman but it will be his bat that finds him a spot in the starting lineup. Did we mention that he is a switch hitter? This kid is the Swiss army knife of hitters and we can’t wait until he arrives in Chicago.
