The Chicago Cubs beat the San Diego Padres 8-6 Wednesday afternoon and completed a three game sweep of the Padres at Wrigley Field. Darwin Barney laced a two out home run in to the left field bleachers to give the North Siders the win and stretch their winning streak to three games. All of the Cubs runs were scored with to outs, a rare sign of clutch hitting not seen much by the Cubs this season. Ryan Dempster did not have his best stuff and could not win for the first time in his last 18 starts. James Russell secured the win with a scoreless ninth inning of work.

The Cubs are now 19-32 for the season, 12-15 at Wrigley Field and will now embark on a 10-game road trip, with four games in San Francisco, three in Milwaukee and three at Target Field in Minnesota to face the Twins.

With the MLB draft coming up Monday June 4th, don't expect the Cubs to begin making any deals until after the draft ends on June 6th. Once Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer are finished with the draft, however, look for names to surface in trade rumors, with Matt Garza and Ryan Dempster possibly moved before the all-star break. It would appear Dempster is all but gone, with the only hold up being his no-trade clause being waived by him. Garza has been rumored to either be traded or in line for an extension with the Cubs. Depending on what is offered to the Cubs for Garza, a trade is still a distinct possibility and Cubs 101 believes he will indeed be traded this year. With starting pitching at a premium, coupled with key injuries to star pitchers such as Jered Weaver and Roy Halladay, a contending team may pull the trigger on a deal for either Cubs starter, Dempster or Garza, in an attempt to strengthen their rotation and make a push for the playoffs.
