The Chicago Cubs have put their season worst 12-game losing streak in the rearview mirror and have started their own two game winning streak with a win Tuesday vs. the San Diego Padres. Jeff Samardzija pitched seven innings for his fifth victory while Alfonso Soriano hit his seventh home run in his last  13 games. The Wrigley faithful were treated to perhaps the Cubs best game of the year, with clutch hitting and a key relief performance from Shawn Camp, who stranded the tying run on third base with nobody out to preserve the win for Samardzija. James Russell recorded the last two outs for his first ever save and is now only 185 saves behind his father, Jeff Russell in the saves column.

It was only fitting on Jeff Samardziaja bobble head day that the Cubs right-hander get the win.  "You don't want to pitch bad and go outside and see your bobble head smashed all over the place," Samardzija said. The Cubs will go for the three game sweep Wednesday with tough luck starter Ryan Dempster eyeing his first win of the season, despite pitching brilliantly while sporting an ERA of only 2.14. Dempster may the hottest trade prospect ever to have a winless streak of 17 starts and be a prime pick up candidate at the trade deadline for a contending team.

In other Cubs news, catcher Steve Clevenger was activated from the disabled list and back up Blake Lalli was optioned to Triple A Iowa  to make room on the roster. Cubs manager Dale Sveum stated that Clevenger would see the bulk of the playing time moving forward, with Koyie Hill and hiss .185 average serving as the back up until Geovany Soto comes back from his torn meniscus injury.

The MLB draft is this Monday, June 4th, with Cubs President Theo Epstein and GM Jed Hoyer preparing for their first ever draft for the Cubs organization. The Cubs select sixth in the first round and look to make a splash with not only that pick but with supplemental picks at 43 (For Aramis Ramirez) and 56 (Carlos Pena), in addition to their second round pick.
