The Chicago Blackhawks announced today that starting goaltender Corey Crawford will miss about three weeks of action due to a lower-body injury. Crawford suffered the injury in the first period on Sunday against the Florida Panthers. He laid on the ice for a couple of minutes and struggled to get to his feet.

Crawford leads the NHL with 17 wins and has a record of 17-6-3. He has posted a 2.47 goals against average and a .907 save percentage. With Crawford out, all eyes are on rookie Antti Raanta who has done a decent job so far this season. In five games, Raanta is 3-0-1 with a 2.16 goals against average and a .922 save percentage. Raanta will assume the starting role with Crawford out and Nikolai Khabibulin still recovering from injury.

The Blackhawks also recalled goaltender Kent Simpson from their AHL affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs on Monday. Simpson is there as insurance and may not be called upon to play based on the Blackhawks' spread out schedule over the next three weeks.

The Blackhawks are currently tied for the NHL lead with 47 points. They will need strong production from their rookie goaltenders if they want to sustain the lead while Crawford rehabs his injury.

Like it or not, it's Raanta time in Chicago and only time will tell how that works out.
