The Chicago Blackhawks saw starting goaltender Corey Crawford injure himself in the first period Sunday night against the Florida Panthers. Crawford remained on the ice for a couple of minutes and struggled to get to his feet. His injury has been reported as being a lower-body injury, but the team doesn't believe it to be serious.

With their initial backup goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin still rehabbing from injury, the team was down to one goaltender in rookie Antti Raanta. In order to fill the second goaltender role, the Blackhawks have recalled Kent Simpson from their AHL affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs. The team them made a corresponding move of placing forward Bryan Bickell on injured reserve, which is retroactive to November 19.

Simpson, 21, has appeared in 15 games for the IceHogs this season, recording a 6-7-0 record. He has a 3.38 goals against average and a save percentage of .900%.

Corey Crawford did not travel with the team to Dallas as the Blackhawks take on the Stars Tuesday night. It is expected that Raanta will get the start with Simpson being the backup. If Crawford is out a few days, the team may have to turn to Simpson to start a game or two.

Raanta has played well in his five games with the Blackhawks, but hasn't been sensational. Hopefully Crawford is only out a few games and can come back in a week or two.
