According to Elliotte Freidman of CBC Sports, the NHL salary cap could rise up to $80 million within the next four years. He spoke about the matter on a Toronto radio show and seemed very convinced that it would happen.
The NHL salary cap is currently set at $64.3 million for 2013-2014. With an increase to the salary cap, it would provide more wiggle room in free agency and teams won't feel like they are always fighting against the cap. On the other hand, if the cap raises $15 more million, we could see some teams trying to corner the market and develop a star-studded team – something that has been done in basketball.
