The Chicago Blackhawks announced Friday night that they have signed veteran goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin to a one year deal. Financial terms have yet to be released, but it should be around the $1.65 million figure that Ray Emery received from Philadelphia.
Khabibulin, 40, played for the Edmonton Oilers the last four seasons. In 2013 with the Oilers, he posted a 4-6-1 record, with a 2.55 goals against average and a .923 save percentage.
Khabibulin will be a familiar face in Chicago as he played for the Blackhawks from 2005-2009. In his years with the Blackhawks, he posted a record of 90-80-24. Although he won't be playing the same role he did in his first tenure with the team, Khabibulin will certainly compete for the backup spot against Antti Raanta.
