Jay Cutler will be back under center for the Chicago Bears, Sunday, against the Cleveland Browns.  Head coach Marc Trestman made the announcement Thursday, after Cutler was able to successfully handle first-team reps at Wednesday night's practice.

"We plan on him playing, and we plan on him playing well," Trestman said Thursday. "I expect Jay to play efficiently and play well on Sunday. That's why he's gonna be up."

"We have a very close quarterback room," he said Thursday. "Everybody knows our situation. There was never a doubt that this the direction we were gonna go. We said that from the beginning. Josh did a tremendous job filling in as the backup. Jay's healthy and ready to go and will play on Sunday."– via

Cutler has been sidelined since Nov. 10th with an ankle sprain.  But he had missed time before that with a groin strain.

Backup Josh McCown compiled a 3-2 record in Cutler's absence, and has bested Cutler in completion percentage, yards per attempt, touchdown to interception ratio and quarterback rating.  But Trestman has maintained that Cutler was in no danger of losing his starting job, and held firm to that position.

Cutler says, despite all the down time, he's ready to go. "The rust, we're kind of knocking it off as we go in practice. I don't think we really have a lot of room for me to be rusty out there," Cutler said.  "We've got to hit it running. We've got to play well.  Cleveland's a really good defense. They show a lot of different fronts. They get off the field on third down. So it's gonna be a challenge."
