With injuries mounting, the Chicago Bears will promote linebacker Jerry Franklin to the active roster in an effort to fill a void on special teams.
The Bears lost linebacker D.J. Williams to a season ending injury, so rookie Jon Bostic will take over as the starter. Bostic's promotion means Franklin will be asked to fill his old role on special teams.
Head coach Marc Trestman said this, according to ESPNChicago.com:
"We're moving some people around," Trestman said. "Jonathan Bostic certainly won't get the special-teams work that he [normally] would. Jerry Franklin will have to step up and the young guys have to step up and do their jobs."
Franklin was claimed off of waivers from the Dallas Cowboys late last season. He was a standout at Arkansas.
The Bears take on the Washington Redskins Sunday, at noon central from FedEx Field.
