Given his history, its no wonder much is being made of Brandon Marshall's comments after Sunday's Chicago Bears' loss to the New Orleans Saints. Marshall caught just four passes, for 30 yards in the game and often played second fiddle to fellow wideout Alshon Jeffrey.
Marshall let it be known after the game that didn't sit well, leading to speculation he might be on his way to a Denver relapse. But according to head coach Marc Trestman, that couldn't be further from the truth (via the Bears' team website).
"He has been great," Trestman said. "As far as meetings [and] on the field, he has not been any kind of distraction from my standpoint. The biggest difficulty I've had is seeing him work through a foot [injury] and work through the hip [injury] during the OTAs. But not at all. He really has not."
Marshall is sure to bounce back, but it's also clear that the Bears can't win if Jay Cutler is only passing to number 15. The team tried that last year, and found out quickly it wasn't enough. With a dual threat at wide receiver, the Bears can finally find some balance on the offensive side of the ball. Cutler seems to agree.
"They weren't going to let him have a good day," Cutler said. They were doubling him in the slot. In the red zone they were doubling him up over the top. They decided, 'Hey, it's not going to happen.' They were going to take him out of the ballgame. He still made some plays for us. He might be frustrated, but we just have to keep getting better and better, and he understands that."
Marshall and the Bears host the winless New York Giants Thursday night.
