The 2012-13 season is winding down and this could be the last week some starters play for their respective teams. Tonight's contest between the Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons is a prime example of that as the Falcons could wrap up the NFC and gain home field advantage throughout the playoffs with a win.
Last week continued the iffy trend of picks by us here at Bears 101 as we went 8-6. It's the fourth straight week without double digit wins, and we're now 126-79-1 on the year.
This will be the first time all year we select all 16 games in a week, as this week marks the first time without a Wednesday or Thursday night contest. This week, every game will take place on Sunday, except for tonight's game, which is replacing Monday Night Football so teams aren't playing on the Christmas holiday.
We'll start with tonight's game where we have a first place team facing a last place team. The Atlanta Falcons have proven they can beat the teams that they should beat, and will continue that trend tonight, locking up the No. 1 seed in the NFC. It'll be the cap on what has been a very disappointing season for the Lions.
The playoff picture is all but set, and just a few games this week are important when it comes to shaping the playoffs.
We see the New Orleans Saints playing spoiler this week for the Cowboys. If their defense plays half as good as it did against Tampa Bay, they should have no problem with Dallas, who despite their recent wins, has struggled through.
Keeping with the NFC East, we see the Washington Redskins taking care of business against the Eagles, and the New York Giants should rebound after putting up a goose egg last week.
The two biggest games when it comes to the playoffs are two divisional games — go figure.
First, the Cincinnati Bengals will visit the Steelers in Pittsburgh. Ben Roethlisberger had an out-lash at his offensive coordinator following last week's loss in Dallas. The Bengals, on the other hand, may be the hottest team in the NFL. We see them continuing their streak, and solidifying themselves a playoff spot.
The other big game is between the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks. Both teams should have no problem making the playoffs, but this game is strictly for seeding. The game takes place in Seattle, so we're going to say they win as they're 6-0 at home.. If they do so, it sure would make Week 17 interesting for both teams.
We also see a bunch of playoff teams in games they should take easily. The Green Bay Packers, New England Patriots, Denver Broncos and Indianapolis Colts will win their respective games.
There are also a bunch of dud games taking place this week. We have the Miami Dolphins, San Diego Chargers and Carolina Panthers this week.
All in all, it should be an interesting week of games, and as a result, teams will still have something to play for in the season's final week.
