Unfortunately for Knox, that doesn't seem to be the case.
Knox lost 30 pounds off his 6-0, 185-pound frame after surgery and has slowly started gaining it back. Although he's gained a lot of his weight back and is almost in football shape, it still appears he won't see the field this year for Chicago.
It's a shame for a team that is in dire need of a deep threat.
‘‘I miss him because of what he brought to the table — the speed factor. The ability to stretch the field,’’ Bears wide receivers coach Darryl Drake said. ‘‘Johnny was getting better and better before he [was injured]. He was averaging 20 yards a catch.’’
Sure, you'd think Devin Hester could fill that role, but he really has failed in it this year. Knox, on the other hand, had 36 receptions for 712 yards (19.8 yards per catch) and two touchdowns in 10 games last year before the injury.
Perhaps Knox will be fully healthy when next season rolls around, adding a new dimension to this team's receiving corps.
