'Jordan Gross' photo (c) 2011, Parker Anderson - license: In the NFL, quarterbacks tend to get all the publicity while offensive linemen, although equally important to the team, are placed under a proverbial rock.

Carolina Panthers left tackle Jordan Gross has begun to lift this proverbial rock with his new podcast titled "This is Gross."

Each show, which features a recorded conversation between Gross and a teammate, rarely goes into detail about football. The discussions are more personal, revealing an intimate side to some of the most popular Panthers players.

From DeAngelo Williams’ coffee preferences to Ryan Kalil’s action figure collection, no topic is off limits. In one episode, listeners even get to learn why Greg Olsen rejected an invite to Geoff Hangartner’s bachelor party.

The show removes the awkward context from normal television and radio interviews where athletes are coaxed to say the right thing. Instead, the podcast affords players the freedom to be themselves and speak their minds – a refreshing change of pace.

Not only is the podcast enjoyable in that regard, but Gross has the perfect personality for the host role. The two-time Pro Bowler is personable, funny and quite good at choosing topics that pique the fans' interests. He will make a great radio personality if he chooses to pursue that goal after football.

All in all, if you're tired of a lack of Panthers coverage – or simply sick of the same old programming on ESPN – check out "This is Gross" on

It's a real treat.
